The Vertex Laser VL400 and the Laser L400

Now with Bluetooth®

The Vertex Laser 400 is a unique combination instrument that contains the best measuring technologies for field work.
Ultrasound - works great in dense forests and for shorter range distances. Laser – a perfect method for long distances
and open terrain. With the Haglöf Vertex Laser instrument you will obtain accurate measuring results for inclination,
heights and distances in any type of terrain and surroundings, in forest and field.   For measuring work in utility
industry and power line survey, the Laser L400 instrument containing laser technology only is another option.
The L400 can be designed to include special functions to measure line sag, improving safety and securing valuable assets.

With the new function of built-in Bluetooth®, the operation area for the Vertex Laser and its versatility is even better.
The Vertex Laser Bluetooth® will be an excellent choice of field instrument for professional operators, improving
precision and enhancing efficiency. Choose to use IR for transfer of measuring results or the Bluetooth® function
to save and process your measuring results in a Haglöf computer caliper or other computer.

Ultrasound and Laser
With proven functional and accurate technology from the Vertex ultrasound and the speed of laser technology, the Vertex Laser multi-instrument will be the only instrument you need for your accurate inclination, height and distance measuring field work.  To measure tree heights and circular sample plots in dense forests and with underbrush and thick shrubs, use the Vertex ultrasound method. The ultrasound always seeks the shortest way around obstacles, such as tree stems and brushes, to reach its reference point – the Transponder T3. In situations where you clearly see your reference goal and when nothing is blocking the sight, and in cases where the reference goal is distant, (farther than 30 m/98ft), use the laser method. With the laser you will not need the T3 transponder. Aim, press and read the results in the display!

The combination technology improves efficiency of your measuring work and makes your job quicker and more accurate, compared to when using analog measuring methods. Significant time savings and increased productivity are instant results!

Tree Heights and Circular Sample Plots

Tree Heights and Circular Sample Plots The Vertex ultrasound method is excellent for shorter distances (up to 30 meters or 98ft) and in terrains where sighting can be difficult. The ultrasound operates with a reference point, a transponder, and seeks the shortest way around obstacles to reach this reference. The transponder is usually pinned directly on the reference goal (tree stem) or fastened on a custom plot staff that is placed beside the goal. In sample plot work, this staff is placed in the plot center and the Vertex is used to measure out the distance to the center, for trees standing inside the plot. Ultrasound technology is commonly referred to as the optimal measuring technology for height measuring work in forest.

Long Distances
Laser technology is an ideal measuring technique when you need to measure out longer distances. With laser it is easy to measure
out distances of 400 mm/yds and more.

The VL400 Vertex Laser and the L400 Laser are excellent to use in utility industries and for power line survey work.

The eight time magnification in the laser aim helps spotting each separate line in line survey. It is easy to determine the angle of nearby trees and other objects standing close to power lines. The special Delta Height function allows for measuring of line sag from the ground. All of these factors are important for improved safety and efficiency in control & survey work. The inclination measuring function in the Vertex Laser instrument is also excellent to determine the optimal position for scaffolds and stairs in construction work and similar.

The Vertex Laser instrument is developed for professional operation and designed to withstand the roughest outdoor conditions. It supports most temperatures and weathers and has been tested and approved by several different independent instances.

Vertex Laser and the Utility Industry
The Vertex Laser instrument was originally developed for use in cruising and inventory work. After having produced the Vertex hypsometer for a number of years, the only “downside” we could find with this functional instrument was the limited distance measuring. The ultrasound can travel up to 40 meters in splendid conditions when stretching it.

The Vertex Laser was therefore invented for those of our operators that sometimes need to measure longer distances. As fieldworkers know, nothing works as smooth as laser when you have a clear vision. The high quality laser unit in the Vertex Laser can measure long distances. It has all features a reliable, functional field laser should have, including scanning function, rain mode and a magnifying aim.

It did not take long for operators within utility industry and power line support to discover the Vertex Laser. The importance of constantly supervising line sag, dangerous trees leaning of high power lines, the exact distance between each pole and how the horizontal distance and ground level angles affect the line position is evident.

A special version developed to suit the requirements from the utility industry perfectly is currently used by several European governmental programs and private industries.  A “light” version incorporating Laser only has been developed for those operators exclusively working with long range measuring.  A custom adapter and tripod for easier handling and spotting has also been developed for this purpose.

The unique measuring method combination, high quality inclination device and the field adjusted ruggedness makes the Vertex Laser an excellent instrument for the utility industry.
